Ensure the Durability and Longevity of Your Industrial Flooring

In high-traffic warehouse and industrial environments, abrasion resistance is a critical performance requirement. Your floors are under constant assault from heavy forklifts, pallet trucks, and specialized machinery. Without the proper resistance, surfaces can degrade rapidly, leading to safety hazards and costly downtime.

Pennine Compliance Group provides specialist testing to ensure your flooring meets the highest industry standards for wear and durability.

Our Testing Methodology

We utilize purpose-built, precision equipment that fully conforms to the requirements of BS EN 13892-4:2002. Often referred to as the BCA Abrasion Test, our process involves:

  • Standardized Stress: Three hardened steel wheels rotate over a template-marked circular area.
  • Precision Measurement: The wheels complete a standard cycle of 2850 ± 10 revolutions.
  • Quantitative Results: We measure the resulting depth of wear to determine the floor’s durability classification.

Expert Analysis & Classification

The measured wear depth allows us to classify your floor in accordance with BS 8204-2:2003+A2:2011. Every test is followed by a comprehensive Pennine Compliance Group report.

Where a classification is lower than required, our experts investigate the underlying causes and provide actionable advice on the significance of the results and any necessary remediation steps.

Classification Standards

Concrete Bases (Directly Finished)

AR0.5 (Special)Severe abrasion/impactHeavy engineering, intense warehousing0.05 mm
AR1Very high abrasionHeavy duty industrial workshops0.1 mm
AR2High abrasionMedium duty industrial & commercial0.2 mm
AR4Moderate abrasionLight duty (rubber-tyred traffic)0.4 mm

Upgraded Surfaces (Dry Shake/Applied Screeds)

AR0.5 (Special)Severe abrasion/impactProprietary dry shake/sprinkle finishes0.05 mm
AR1Very high abrasionMonolithic or bonded wearing screeds0.1 mm
AR2High abrasionMedium duty commercial0.2 mm
AR4Moderate abrasionLight duty commercial0.4 mm

Technical Note: The Concrete Society’s Technical Report No. 34 (TR34, 4th Edition) states that 1 test per 4000m² is adequate, and that the minimum required abrasion resistance should be 0.20mm (AR2).
