Pennine Compliance Group | Specialist Flooring Analysis
In high-traffic warehouse and industrial environments, abrasion resistance is a critical performance requirement. Your floors are under constant assault from heavy forklifts, pallet trucks, and specialized machinery. Without the proper resistance, surfaces can degrade rapidly, leading to safety hazards and costly downtime.
Pennine Compliance Group provides specialist testing to ensure your flooring meets the highest industry standards for wear and durability.
We utilize purpose-built, precision equipment that fully conforms to the requirements of BS EN 13892-4:2002. Often referred to as the BCA Abrasion Test, our process involves:
The measured wear depth allows us to classify your floor in accordance with BS 8204-2:2003+A2:2011. Every test is followed by a comprehensive Pennine Compliance Group report.
Where a classification is lower than required, our experts investigate the underlying causes and provide actionable advice on the significance of the results and any necessary remediation steps.

| Class | Service Conditions | Typical Examples | Max Wear Depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| AR0.5 (Special) | Severe abrasion/impact | Heavy engineering, intense warehousing | 0.05 mm |
| AR1 | Very high abrasion | Heavy duty industrial workshops | 0.1 mm |
| AR2 | High abrasion | Medium duty industrial & commercial | 0.2 mm |
| AR4 | Moderate abrasion | Light duty (rubber-tyred traffic) | 0.4 mm |

| Class | Service Conditions | Material Type | Max Wear Depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| AR0.5 (Special) | Severe abrasion/impact | Proprietary dry shake/sprinkle finishes | 0.05 mm |
| AR1 | Very high abrasion | Monolithic or bonded wearing screeds | 0.1 mm |
| AR2 | High abrasion | Medium duty commercial | 0.2 mm |
| AR4 | Moderate abrasion | Light duty commercial | 0.4 mm |
Technical Note: The Concrete Society’s Technical Report No. 34 (TR34, 4th Edition) states that 1 test per 4000m² is adequate, and that the minimum required abrasion resistance should be 0.20mm (AR2).
Beyond standard compliance, Pennine Compliance Group offers expert witness services. Whether you are facing a legal dispute regarding floor performance or require a forensic analysis into flooring failures, our team provides the technical authority you need.
